DIY Mermaid Dominos: A Printable Game for Kids and Adults
Running out of ways to entertain your kids- or yourself- during your COVID-19 isolation? (Or #QuaranQueen, as we’ve dubbed it.) Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for at least an hour with our DIY Mermaid Dominos, inspired by Handmade Charlotte. Read on for our directions for assembly and game play, then download your DIY dominos and get going!
How to Make Your Mermaid Dominos
Start by downloading our DIY Mermaid Dominos template. This template contains the designs for both the front and back of the cards. If you have thicker paper at home, (like cardstock, or watercolor paper) you can set your printer to print double-sided pages. (Note: be sure to set your printer to “Print Entire Image” so nothing is cut off.) Once the ink has dried, cut out each card along the dotted lines, and you are ready to play!
If you don’t have printer-appropriate thick paper at home, print out each page of the Mermaid Dominos template single-sided on regular paper. Then, glue a front page and a back page onto either side of a heavier substance (I used an old manilla folder). Whatever heavy paper you use, be sure to line up the front and back pages well so they correspond correctly when you cut them out.
How to Play Mermaid Dominos
Each player gets 5 domino cards. Place the remaining domino cards facedown on the table.
The first player places any domino card they choose face up in the center of the table.
Moving clockwise, the next player must play a card with a corresponding icon to one on the table. If they have one such card, they place it down on the table touching the icon it corresponds to.
If they do not have a domino card that matches one of the unmatched icons on the table, then they must draw one from the center pile and skip their turn. The first player to run out of cards wins!
